UCSF Steam Generators
Client: OSHPD
Services: Plumbing

15000 Inc. partnered with F.W. Spencer to design-build replacement of two large hot water generators for UCSF’s Parnassus Street campus. This was an Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD) hospital project.

The ancient low-pressure steam to hot water generators were replaced with two compact hot water generators. The project included major renovations to the existing steam and condensate systems and the associated piping.

This OSHPD project presented many challenges since shut-down of the hot water system could only be of limited duration. In addition the design and construction process for OSHPD projects require a detailed knowledge of their requirements, procedures and documentation.

This project highlighted the benefits of design-build partnering. The process allows both the engineer and the contractor to do what they do best while achieving the best economical outcome and schedule control for the owner. Design-build is the right solution for many projects and 15000 Inc. has a wide variety of experience in this field.
