Marin Academy – Science and Innovation Center
15000 Inc. Mechanical Engineers was proud to be selected by Wright Contracting as part of their design-build team for this stunning architectural experience.
Masterfully designed by EHDD Architects of San Francisco the new facility will allow Marin Academy to continue to push the boundaries of educational excellence.
The 18,000 square foot, 3 Story Science and Innovation Center is situated on a steep slope in the center of an occupied school campus. The Science and Innovation Center is a 21st Century learning environment that makes the sciences a visible, vibrant, and integral part of the campus. The building includes six lab classrooms and an independent study lab to support the innovative science program. On target for LEED Platinum, the Science and Innovation Center will be a highly sustainable building, and will serve as an object lesson for students.
15000 Inc. Mechanical Engineers of Santa Rosa provided Building Information Modelling (BIM) coordination using 3D Revit software to coordinate the entire building’s complex utilities. All ductwork, piping, conduits, sprinklers and supports were entered into the 3D model.
Navisworks software was then employed for clash detection. Once the clashes were identified the 15000 Inc. mechanical engineers painstakingly eliminated the clashes.
The BIM modeling and clash detection allowed the HVAC and Plumbing subcontractors to prefabricate large sections of ducts and pipes with minimal field measurements.
The project was further streamlined by the use of Trimble GPS/Laser Technology to map and mark the locations of walls, structure and utility supports directly from the BIM model. This highly sophisticated construction technique resulted in a fully coordinated installation. The Trimble laser marking allowed the entire installation to occur in a much shorter time period than standard construction techniques.
15000 Inc. Mechanical Engineers are specialists in BIM modelling and Revit 3D software. We use Navisworks for clash detection to aid contractors in building systems coordination.
